Material selection
D2 and 1.2379 cover most plastics work and hold an edge well. DC53 is the better choice where the knife is long and thin and warping during heat treatment is a risk. High-speed steel goes in where the feed is clean and edge retention is everything — fibre, film, PET bottle flake — and tungsten carbide where the material is filled with glass or mineral and nothing else survives.
Filled and reinforced plastics are the usual reason a knife life estimate turns out wrong. Thirty percent glass fibre will destroy a standard tool steel edge in a fraction of the expected hours, and the answer is a change of grade, not a change of supplier.

Rotor, bed and side knives can be produced from approved drawings, samples, part numbers, machine models or measured dimensions. Grade, hardness, edge angle, hole and slot position, thickness, flatness tolerance, marking and packing are specified per application.
